Little Orphan Anvil by Joseph Beekman

Joseph Beekman

Why did you start the Anvil Trilogy?  Where did the idea come from?  How did you feel after completing Little Orphan Anvil?  Were there any issues that got in the way of completion?

The idea for the story came from my love for fantasy adventure and science fiction literature and movies, along with my memories of being a kid and loving to explore the woods and old haunted ghost towns of Montana where I spent many summers. The innocence and adventure of being a kid, and seeking out adventure and letting your imagination just flow. Plus, I always loved robots, or the idea of them - (I was 8 when I saw the original Star Wars, so that left a huge imprint on me)  - and so with all that in mind, I decided to combine a dark but magical type setting in a fantasy based realm, and created a robot that would be the central focus or theme, and driving energy of the entire trilogy.

I felt very thrilled and relieved to have completed a story that would be great for children of all ages, teens, and adults, too! It was fun to write, and really there were no issues to speak of when I wrote the book. I just let my imagination do the writing. ;)

A tale of an orphaned robot and its journey to help a divided realm of lost lands from being ruled by an evil witch. When the Land of Iron and Anvil is struck by a wicked storm, the robot becomes lost to the wilds of the lands. But after being discovered by a little boy and his dog, the robot is then reunited with its creator, and together they travel to the Land of Shadows, hoping to free a group of orphans from the dark magic of the witch...and to save an entire realm from her twisted rule!

Review
This story takes place in a faraway realm, where shadows of a forgotten land are uncovered, and old witch woman hides behind the walls of an orphanage taking her resentment out on the children. When secrets are revealed, and Will begins tinkering with hammer and anvil, he soon finds out with his skills as his iron and metal he can craft creatures called robot-droids. Thus we have Anvil... A magic he truly believed in and put to work; relying on his skills and craftsmanship rather than the sorcery of the wicked old woman; many believe to be the people of the villages only custom and belief for years. The old witch woman refused to adapt to the ways of Wills craftsmanship and resented him. Her belief that only magic and sorcery were the only ways to live by, so she left taking her wicked ways with her to what is known as the land of shadows. Little do they know of her wicked plans to rule not only a piece of the land but the entire realm.

Very well written as well as a fast page turner. The characters come alive and the realm they live in. I love Will's character as well as Sonny and Kelsey's characters. Will's character cracks me up with how excited he gets over everything. He is truly a character not forgotten. Sonny and Kelsey will grew on me as well as Anvil.  With a little bit of history as to the time and age. The book takes you on a wonderful ride with adventure as Will, Sonny and a robot-droid set out on their journey to stop the wicked sorcery witch woman!
