“Promise me one thing. Promise me you’ll live.”

Claire Fortune arrives in Boston with an old notebook and her best friend’s dying wish – to finish the scribbled bucket list that Hope didn’t have time to complete. Moment by moment, Claire builds a life she never dreamed of – until Theo walks into the coffee-shop one crisp September afternoon, and her careful plans scatter on the winds.

Sometimes a chance meeting can change a life forever.
Sometimes fate knows exactly what we need.

Perfect for fans of ‘Me Before You’ and ‘The Fault in Our Stars’, ‘The Promise’ brings together two people searching for a love that can overcome tragedy. A heartbreakingly romantic novel that challenges us to live – and love - every day as if it were our last.

Get your boxes of tissues ready, ladies!  This poignant masterpiece is sure to have everyone ugly crying.  No one will be immune.

Claire has made a promise to finish ticking off her friend's bucket list.  Hope never survived the cancer.  Just like her name, she lived until her last few days, full of hope and desire to live life to the fullest.  She shared her deepest thoughts with Claire... and also her bucket list.  So now it is up to Claire to complete Hope's list on her behalf.

Running away from home to start a new life, Claire is amazed to find a job on the Harvard campus right away.  Baristas do not make uddles of money, but it is enough to pay for rent and food.  Claire is off to a great start living to the fullest.  In comes Theo looking for a cup of coffee and  quoting Woodsworth and a connection is made that will last forever.

I was mesmerized by this story.  It is a deeply felt courtship, full of the exuberance of first love, and the thrill of discovery.  Theo and Claire are the two halves that make each other whole.  They connect on a cellular level, rarely seen in lovers so young.

As Theo helps Claire finish the bucket list,  they share their deepest secrets and desires.  All Theo wants is to make Claire happy.  This is when the bottom falls out and the two lovers are separated by a maze of deceit and half-truths.

This story is a masterpiece.   Seldom has a book affected me as much.  I cried my eyes out and could not put it down.  I know I will re-read it someday... I just cannot handle it at this time.  I felt myself become Claire and I experienced all her pain.  Her spirit kept driving me on.  Her loss became mine.  Her love for Theo was so real to me that when things started spinning out of control, I mourned for the loss.

This is a must read, but like I warned you, keep those tissues close by.
