I was happy in my small town. In my life as a single thirty-two year old woman. I had a good job, wonderful friends, my independence.
I also hadn't got laid in three years. Hadn't been on a date in two. Had stopped counting calories and putting on makeup... a while ago.
Then Brett Jacobs waltzed in. Caressed my thigh, dug rough fingers into my hair, lowered his soft mouth to my skin, took sexual control of my mind and stirred it all around with what he packed in his pants. He dumped my quiet life upside down and crawled into a place in my heart I thought was dead.
The issue is his secret. The issue is her. The issue is that I don't even know she exists, and he thinks she's dead. The issue is that everything is about to hit the fan and I can't hold on to him tight enough.
4.5 of 5 Stars
Alessandra Torre has a unique storytelling style. From the first word in this story, my mind was engaged in this suspenseful story of love, secrets, and the perversion of human trafficking. I have to admit I was leery of what the ending would bring. Not all stories end in a happily ever after scenario and the way the book evolves... well I cannot say more.
Riley and Brett's love affair will make you smile and cheer for joy once they finally come together. They are perfect for each other, although they don't realize how much. She is cautious of falling in love, yet once she kisses him it is a foregone conclusion.
The scene at the dinner in her hometown of Quincy with the four policemen is both funny and endearing. Watch for it! Anyone who has a daughter who they worry about will wholeheartedly understand. Do we ever stop worrying about our children?
As you will read in the author's notes included with this book, our author had a tough time bringing this story to its completion. It is a delicate subject with a lot of moving pieces. In my humble opinion, it is a story worth reading. There is so much going on with the traffic of women and children going on in our world right now. No one speaks up much about it and it is a perversion that must be stopped; one case at a time, chipping away at the horrible treatment of our loved ones. Awareness is power. Thank you Alessandra for such a moving story!
