Dance Club Scene

I received a couple of catcalls as my body moved to the music. I knew the best thing was to always ignore them as I let the music take me over. My hips swayed, and my hands went up in the air. The third song started playing, and a light gleam of sweat coated my skin. Some unwanted bodies had tried to get close to me, but I knew how to keep my distance from strangers without losing my rhythm. It was freeing. I was lost in the beat when familiar hands came around my front. I knew it was Mark.

His mouth came to my ear. “Hey. Wanna dance?”

Mark pulled me to him. Our bodies joined, and we began moving together. His head came down and kissed the exposed part of my neck, and I tilted to the side to give him full access. The crowd had thickened and was pressing in on us. The pulse of the music drove us. We moved until we were both a hot mess, and neither one of us had said a word through multiple songs of the most hip-grinding, dirty dancing I had ever done.

After nibbling on my earlobe, Mark said, “Let’s say bye to the boys, and then I’m taking you home. I think all these assholes got the picture of whose bed you belong in.”

Turning to face him, I kissed him hard as his hands stroked my back. His leg went between my legs, and we started moving again. Our hot tongues danced with each as our bodies moved as one. We were both sweaty and hot. We were about to be a sexual explosion out here if we didn’t leave soon.

Pulling back barely, our lips still touching, I responded, “Now, all the girls who were hanging around, hoping for a shot with you, know who you’re taking to bed tonight.”

He grabbed my ass, bringing me closer to him, and it only increased my sexual need for him.

Mark bit my lip and then said, “I like you a little jealous. Let’s go before I lose my remaining bit of self-control.”

Promise Me is the third book in the Trust Series.

Review of A is for Alpha Male and Secret Alpha Alpha by Laurel Ulen Curtis

Title: A is for Alpha Male (Book #1) & Secret Alpha (Book #2)
Author: Laurel Ulen Curtis
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: November 12, 2013 & April 29, 2014

A is for Alpha Male
(From Haley's POV)

I’m Haley Whitfield, and I recently had the ingenious idea to enlist my mother, Allison, as my kick*ss sidekick and set out on a road trip.

This road trip wasn’t to be just any road trip, but a very special one indeed. An adventure with an acutely specific purpose-- to find our other halves. The peanut butter to our jelly. The i to our Phone. The stripper to our pole.

If our romantic desires were a personal ad, they would read something like this.

** Two sassy women (Ages twenty-seven and forty-nine respectively--Ouch. Okay, ages twenty-seven and thirty--with nineteen years experience-- respectively) seeking Alpha Males to love us with zeal and kiss us with skill. Gorgeous face and sexy, tattooed, hard body a must. If you aren’t a dangerous bad*ss with the x-rated skills and virility to match, don’t bother. Must be willing to protect us from danger, value our quirkiness, and keep your mouth shut when said quirkiness is what leads to said danger. Momma’s boys named Dan Smith need not apply.**

I know. It’s a bit wordy. In fact, it would probably cost a fortune. Luckily, we’re not ready for the personal ad. We’re not that desperate...yet.

This is my story.

Warning: Some explicit language and sexual content

Secret Alpha
(From Danny's POV)

I’m Dan Smith, and I’m currently living two lives. Maybe even three if you really look into it. Haley, Allison, Hunter, Wade, Sergio, and Isla all exist in one or more of them somehow.
Am I a supporting role in their stories, or are they merely characters in mine?
You decide.

Haley told her story. Now I’ll tell mine.

She said. He said.

This is my story.

Secret Alpha
(From Danny's POV)

Once again, Allison had no answer, but that didn’t get Haley down at all.

I could feel my feet start to walk in their direction, straight down the bar and stopping right in front of them, as though I was having an out of body experience.

“As far as loosening up, I meant alcohol.....Shot time!”

Perfect. Cue me.

She looked away from her mom right at that moment, honing in like a laser beam on my exact location.

And then, looked right through me.

Burn.

“Two shots of fireball, please,” Haley requested sweetly, but I could tell she didn’t notice me at all.

If anything, that made her even cuter. She was completely there, in that moment, with her mom. Clearly, they had a strong, close, vibrant relationship, and a respect that I hardly ever saw between people anymore.

Living in such a technologically driven era, people rarely interacted with one another without an outside distraction like a cell phone going at the same time.

Don’t worry, I’m not anti-technology, but I am pro-personal connection. The kind of camaraderie that’s strong enough to hold a person’s entire interest. It’s probably a lifetime lacking in close connections that drives my philosophical approach to conversational engagement, but I couldn’t tell you for sure because I’m not a psychologist.

“You got it, sweetheart,” I said, and then began thoroughly kicking my own ass for adding on a term of endearment. I seriously didn’t know what the fuck was wrong with me. I didn’t know what is was about this girl that had me tied in knots, and I didn’t know why in the fuck I kept letting myself forget I was in the middle of a very serious, extremely dangerous investigation.

There was probably a price on my head at that exact moment, for fuck’s sake.

I pulled my lips back over my teeth immediately, putting away the dimples and effectively putting the kabash on my smile. But it didn’t even matter because she still hadn’t even really looked at me. In fact, another man, someone I wasn’t familiar with, had just approached her and started flirting.

He was a cocksucking dork, I could tell, but she flirted back. The really disgusting part is that I felt an immediate flare of fire in my belly, the edges of my flaming jealousy licking the lining of my stomach and burning me alive.

Placing the shots on the bar in front of them, I redirected my mind and energy and moved to the other end of the bar, keen to do any other work I could come up with.

But as I left, I allowed myself one last look, startling noticeably when Allison’s keen blue eyes found mine and a knowing smile crept sweetly onto her face.

Fuck. Me.

A is for Alpha Male
(From Haley's POV)
What a delightful book! Haley is full of life and totally CRAZY. At 27 years of age and with no prospects around for a boyfriend, she takes charge and begins her quest for the perfect man. Only one little twist... she is bringing her mother with her and is going to try and do the same for her mother.

The bond between Haley and her mother, Allison, is very strong. They are truly best friends. They have no secrets from each other, well not many. Their interaction is what makes this books a joy to read. The apple does not fall far from the tree. Allison is just as quirky as her daughter and provides a little wisdom along with her side of crazy.

This book is told from Haley's POV. Her approach to life is so hopeful and endearing, I am sure you will end up smiling throughout just like I did!

Secret Alpha
(From Danny's POV)
Now Danny gets to tell the story from his POV. Just like in Book #1 A is for Alpha Male, Haley steals the show and steals Danny's heart from the moment they see each other.

This book is DEFINITELY meant to be read after reading A is for Alpha Male. You will miss out if you do not read it in order.

Danny's life is very complicated. His job, and not as a bartender, is delicate and dangerous. The last thing Danny needs at this time is the complication of falling in love.

The banter between Danny and Haley is adorable. He has her number and is making her run in circles. For an independent girl like Haley, this is a miracle. She is cocky, loud mouthed and totally honest. Did I forget to mention she also has the sailor talk down to an art? Yes, no one ever washed her mouth with soap and she really gets away with it.

Enjoy reading this book as much as I did!

About the Author:
I began writing music and poetry at an early age. My love of music became my sole focus and I spent quite a few years as the lead singer for many local rock bands. In high school I was fascinated with the macabre and started writing science fiction and horror stories so dark they earned me the nickname "Gory Cory." After years of writing dark tales, I never thought in a million years my first two finished manuscripts would be Adult Romance. Bite & Release will be the first book published sometime in late May/early June and Reviving Haven; my second book will be released at the end of July. The themes of both books are older women/younger men and are for 18+ due to language, sexual situations and subject matter. Both are stand alone with no cliffhanger.

excerpt

Around 1:00 on the morning of the 27th, a person from the OB floor called my name. I motioned him over. He grabbed the wheelchair and pushed me through the halls. Mom and Greg followed closely behind. When we finally got to the sixth floor, they took me into triage room one.

“Hello, what brings you in?” The woman asked as she came in.

“I think we’re about to have a baby.” I answered her with a smile.

Why else would we be there? It’s not everyday people like to hang out in the OB part of the hospital for no reason at all.

“Okay, you’ll need to strip from your waste down. I’ll need a sample of your urine here in this cup and put the rest in the plastic bin. I’ll be back in a few minutes to hook you up.” She instructed as she pointed to the small toilet in the room.

It was a good thing I had to go. I looked over at my mom and Greg as I said, “Hope I can do this without peeing all over the place.” Of course, I tried to make both laugh and succeeded. As I pulled down my panties, I noticed a small amount of blood. My mom and Greg noticed too.

“The bloody show. You’re definitely not going anywhere any time soon.” My mom said with a smile. “We’re gonna have a baby!” She chanted excitedly.

The only thing I could come back with was, “Or she’s in distress.”

“Don’t think like that. All will be fine. Have some faith.” My mom said to calm me down and comfort me.

Once I was ready to get on to the bed, I slowly made my way with Greg’s help. I laid back and the contractions were much stronger. Around one in the morning, the nurse finally came back in, shut the door, and walk to the left side of the bed. She grabbed a strap and placed it on my belly. “This will monitor the contractions, which I see you’re definitely having.”

Once the strap was in place, she fiddled with the machine for a few minutes and said, “Let’s find that heartbeat.”

She grabbed the gel, put a good bit on my belly, and grabbed the Doppler. Once she spread out the gel, she started searching for Dakota’s heartbeat. I couldn’t wait to hear it. It was only a matter of seconds before I’d hear it.

She kept moving around on my belly. I pointed to right side of my belly button and said, “This is usually where my doctor found her heartbeat without a problem.” She moved the device there. We still didn’t hear anything.

After another squirt of gel on my belly, she searched again. My heart raced and panic overtook me. Something was wrong. I could feel it. I glanced at my mom and Greg. They were worried too. I saw Greg swallow hard and turned my attention back to the nurse.

“Sometimes it takes time to find the heartbeat. The baby could be lying with her back towards yours, which makes it hard for the machine to pick it up. I’m going to get an ultrasound machine. That will definitely pick it up.” The nurse said, as she placed the Doppler back and walked out of the room.

My mom saw worry and panic cross my face. She stood up from her chair and walked over to me. “Let’s pray” she said. My mom, Greg, and I said a quick prayer while we waited on the nurse. Within a few minutes, the door opened and the nurse pushed in an ultrasound machine. She plugged it in and turned it on.

As she stood to the right of me, Greg and my mom were on my left. My mom held my leg and Greg took a hold of my hand. I eagerly wanted the nurse to put a fire under her ass and hurry up. It seemed like everyone and everything started moving in slow motion. The nurse began looking at Dakota through the ultrasound.

At first, I couldn’t tell what was on the screen. What I noticed was that she was not trying to hear her heart but to see it. That was when it came into view. My daughter’s heart was not beating. I rubbed my eyes, thinking they were playing a trick on me. The nurse stood up and walked out of the room without saying a word.

Moments later, three other medical personnel walked into the room. They whispered in their small circle where we couldn’t hear and continued looking at the screen. The room was quiet. I heard the ultrasound machine running and could have heard a pin drop. I knew my baby was gone by the look on their faces, but no one said anything.

“Ummm, hello? Someone tell me what’s going on?” I yelled. I was tired of it. I knew what this meant, but I wanted them to say it. It was not final until someone had said it.

The doctor closest to me said, “I’m sorry. She’s gone.”
