When an accident claims her mother’s life, Keahilani Alana must take charge of her family or risk losing what little they have. With an underage brother to care for and no education, she has few options. The door to a heavenly hellish opportunity opens when she stumbles upon a valuable secret her mother left behind on the slopes of an extinct volcano—a legacy that tempts the family with riches beyond their wildest dreams. But the secret is much bigger and more sinister than they realize. As reality unravels and exposes eerie truths about the siblings that should have remained deep under the mountain, Keahilani must either resist the call of her blood or risk being consumed by its darkness. Blake Murphy is an assassin working to infiltrate a new Hawaiian cartel. His investigation reveals that Keahilani, the sexy surfing instructor he pegged as an informant, is much closer to the drug ring than he thought. Passion ignites between them in the bedroom, but their ironclad ties to opposing interests pit them against each other everywhere else. When tensions reach the breaking point and her family is threatened, the only cure for Keahilani’s hot-blooded fury is a loaded clip with a body bag chaser. * HOT-BLOODED is a suspense/thriller that contains drug use and graphic sex, language, and violence. The story is intended to entertain, not to condone or glorify illegal or immoral activities.

Family is all in life.  Your commitment to your family goes beyond bloodlines.  Once you are part of "the family"  you are treasured for your loyalty, trust and most of all, your veneration to the preservation and protection of "the family".  Sounds like this is an Italian family in the Godfather?  Well this is 'Ohana and we are talking of a Hawaiian family immersed in a suspenseful and thrilling dark drama to survive and flourish.

From reading the "blurb" you get the general idea that we have a very mature subject and plot line enfolding here.  Drugs, sex, murder are but a few of the avenues used to protect the 'Ohana.  Personal feelings take a second place when the destiny and fate of the 'Ohana are involved.

I was enthralled by this book.  As I immersed myself deeper into this book, I was able to place myself in the shoes of our characters and understand their absolute commitment and motive.  Out of desperation, this sister and brothers join forces to survive regardless of what they have to do to achieve their goal.  These characters became very real as the book progressed.  I could not help but wonder the damage to their psyche as they carried out  sometimes horrible deeds in order to survive.

Kendall Grey uses the legends and beliefs of the Hawaiian natives to further her story, weaving the Earth magic into the story just as if it were an additional character influencing the outcome of our story.  This novel is fiction literature  providing us with a unique approach to dealing with bigotry, racism, good vs evil, and the results that come from poor decisions.  In the end, sacrifices are made on behalf of the survival of the 'Ohana, and our story is left with enough open questions that I was left longing for more.

Do not expect a happy ending.  The only happy ending that counts is the survival of the 'Ohana.  Everything else is inconsequential.  This is a gripping story and not for the faint of heart.
