From New York Times bestselling author Lisa Renee Jones, an Inside Out series e-short told from Mark’s point of view, as he battles his all-consuming desire for Crystal. Devastated by Rebecca’s death, Mark is facing the chaos of the press and the police investigation alone, his reputation, his business, and even his freedom under threat. When a family emergency sends him back east to New York, he puts Crystal—who’s as capable as she is challenging—in charge of his San Francisco art gallery. A Master, all about control, right now he feels that he has none. With his secret sex club and his relationships of the past in the spotlight, Mark finds sanctuary in the one place he promised he would never be again—but cannot seem to resist. Crystal’s arms.
I have been waiting for this book for the longest time. You know, just like when you watch a pot of water while waiting for it to come to a boil and it takes forever? This installment focuses on Mark. If there is a more complex and messed up character out there in the literary world I have not found him. This man intrigues and fascinates me... does that mean I am worped?
He is complicated and this control thing he has going I think only hides a chasm in his heart we have not discovered yet. He is too much... too much control, too perfect in his attire, too much when he greets people and is forever stiff and aloof, you get the drift.
In Lisa Renee Jones' superb writing style, we are regaled with the crumbling of Mark's control obsession. He is so driven to seduce Crystal that he actually forgets to remove himself from the emotions by playing Master and planning a scene. He just acts on instinct. Masterfully written, Mark's secrets are just below the surface and no longer deeply hidden. Rebecca's fate has undone him. His conscience no longer allows him to hide from his feelings, and I think in the end, a new Mark will be discovered.
I am begging the author to write more about Mark and Crystal. She is the conduit to Mark's liberation and I think that is a story worth telling.
