Review of New Release Come Home To Me (Whiskey Creek #2) by Brenda Novak

Title: Come Home To Me (Whiskey Creek #2)
Author: Brenda Novak
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Length: 416 pages
Release Date: March 25, 2014

Home is where her heart is...

When Presley Christensen returns to Whiskey Creek with her little boy after two years away, she has completely changed her life. She's made peace with her past and overcome the negative behavior that resulted from her difficult childhood. Now she's back in the small town that was the closest thing to "home" she ever knew—the town where she can be with the sister who's her only family.

There's just one catch. Aaron Amos still lives in Whiskey Creek, at least until he moves to Reno to open a branch of the Amos brothers' auto body shop. And no matter how hard she's tried, Presley hasn't been able to get over him. Seeing him again makes the longing so much worse. But she hopes she can get through the next few months, because she can't fall back into his arms…or his bed. She's come too far to backslide now. And there's a secret she's been guarding—a secret she'll do anything to protect.

I love this Whiskey Creek Series. Each is a standalone novel and deals with a member of this group of characters that live in Whiskey Creek.

This time the story is about Presley and Aaron. They have both come a long way in the last two years -- cleaning up from the drugs they were doing and working at building a new life. Presley has been away for those two years, after being driven off the edge by Aaron's uncaring comments on the night her mother died.

Presley really is a sweet girl. She was pregnant with Aaron's baby... but only her sister Cheyenne knows her secret. With Aaron being Cheyenne's brother-in-law, Cheyenne has no one to confide in, not even her husband. This weighs heavily on both sisters.

I love how dedicated Presley is at making a new life for herself. She has worked very hard to give herself a career as a massage therapist and yoga instructor. She has saved her money while raising her son Wyatt. Wyatt has grown strong, healthy, outgoing and well-adjusted. This is no small feat for a young woman who was at her lowest point when she found out she was pregnant.

Coming back to Whiskey Creek was a necessity if Presley was to continue in her quest for independence and security for Wyatt. One problem right? Aaron! She never told him about Wyatt... but this should be OK because he is due to leave Whiskey Creek for Reno and just in the nick of time, as far as Presley is concerned.

Now that you have the background you can imagine all the complications that are coming Presley's way. She is still in love with Aaron, and although he is clean of his drug habit and working steadily, he is still the same stubborn man that sent her away the night her mother died. He thought he never really loved Presley and their relationship was just one of friends with benefits and party life.

Any woman reading this story will feel extreme empathy for Presley. She is fighting for survival and the future of her son. She is trying to build her self esteem and life has been a real b**ch to her. I just kept hoping for her to get a break. I kept hoping Aaron would realize that Presley was perfect for him. But he is absolutely convinced he is not ready to settle down and is not in love with Presley.

I found this book compelling and extremely interesting. You will not believe all the plot twists and obstacles they are dealing with. I am looking forward to book #3. There are clues in this book of what is to come to other members of this community, and I cannot wait to find out how everything evolves.

About the Author
It was a shocking experience that jump-started Brenda Novak’s bestselling author career.

“I caught my day-care provider drugging my children with cough syrup and Tylenol to get them to sleep while I was away,” Brenda says. “It was then that I decided that I needed to do something from home.”

However, writing was the last profession she expected to undertake. In fact, Brenda swears she didn’t have a creative bone in her body. In school, math and science were her best subjects, and when it came time to pick a major in college, she chose business.

Abandoning her academic scholarship to Brigham Young University at the age of 20 in order to get married and start a family, Brenda dabbled in commercial real estate, then became a loan officer.

“When I first got the idea to become a novelist, it took me five years to teach myself the craft and finish my first book,” Brenda admits. “I learned how to write by reading what others have written. The best advice for any would-be author: read, read, read….”

Brenda sold her first book, and the rest is history. Many of her novels have won or placed in contests such as the National Reader's Choice, the Bookseller's Best, the Write Touch, the Award of Excellence and the Beacon Award for Published Authors.

Brenda and her husband, Ted, live in Sacramento and are the proud parents of five children—three girls and two boys. She juggles her writing career with her children’s softball and soccer games, field trips, carpool runs and homework sessions.

When she’s not spending time with her family or writing, Brenda is usually working on her annual fundraiser for diabetes research—an on-line auction held at her website May 1st – May 31st. Her youngest son, Thad, has diabetes, and Brenda is determined to help him and others like him. She also enjoys traveling, watching sporting events and biking--she rides an amazing 20 miles every day!
