“I don’t understand!” My heart hurt and the pain was growing steadily stronger with every passing second that I sat there watching as my future slipped from between my fingers. “What am I?”
He prolonged his response by flipping open the top book and shuffling through the pages. He didn’t stop or glance up until he'd found what he was looking for. It was inside a book with faded blue covers and words written in flawless loops. I watched with a building sense of terror and dread as the book was flipped around so I could stare at the faint image of my destiny inside.
