BRIEF SYNOPSIS

In the last year of mandatory school each soon to be graduate takes a multitude of tests to

efficiently funnel them into the right career. Personality profiles showing you to be low IQ, bigoted and prone to senseless violence really increase your chances of being denied. Scores mean enough to tempt test takers to cheat using answer sets bought from sketchy characters. You don't always get what you pay for as Felix Dernoft discovers in Destined for...Something, a Next You novel.

Inspiration for the Next You Universe

Some body goes to school, graduates, gets a job, maybe starts a family and compiles memories until the day they stop. That is the usual way of things in our world as we know it. A person gets a chance to be one or two things in life or chooses to focus that way because if they do not then people judge that person not worthy of respect. I gravitate toward the other side here.

I have been blessed with the opportunity to do many things in my life and I have taken away many lessons from each that enabled me to reinvent myself. Experiences as a soldier, farmer, machinist, insurance adjuster, chemist and now a Science Fiction author have allowed me to keep actively engaged in life and not let it pass by Scot free. What better inspiration for a Science Fiction franchise.

Next You is the name of a corporation that has cornered the technology necessary to reincarnate persons using nanotech and other advances. You can come back in an avatar of your choice and a career within the needs of the society. Whether you want to breathe air, water or the noxious blend of a gas giant where you can exist floating in the atmosphere are left to you and the skills of the negotiator the company will employ to finalize your contract.

Some of the works focus around individuals not directly associated with the company but the theme of reinventing oneself is prevalent in all of the works. As for the themes of the individual novels I generally get a synopsis for a new novel to take root in my mind while completing the one before it, or several before it. Many are spin offs that will focus on a character that was a support in a previous work, a person who sparked interest and lured me in to explore more depth.

As of the time I'm writing this my newest released work is Destined for...Something. The original thought here was to write a character that the audience would love to see taken into a parking lot and introduced to the ground. By chapter three I realized that I couldn't write that character because there is no way that I wanted to read it. The work morphed into a futuristic treatment of what happens when you are: not a genius, not the best looking, not rich and suffer from some dysfunctions. It also became an action adventure romance novel where the protagonist evolves into someone you cheer and feel empathy for by the end.

 AUTHOR BIO

I live in Fort Collins Colorado with my wife and son. My daughter has embarked on her career as a graphics designer. I've been an Infantryman, Swine Farmer, smattering of other trades and jobs and now I'm a manufacturing pharmaceutical chemist. What aspect of my life that is devoted to fitness favors swimming in open water which means I spend most of the year working out in a pool then hit the lakes when it warms up a bit. My wife Cheryl safety kayaks for me when we manage to make it work. One day when I was waiting on everybody else in the house to get off of the computer when it hit me. Start doing what I had wanted to do for the last thirty years, write science fiction stories. I've read extensively, experienced way more than a person is entitled to and I am a scientist. That being said, sometimes I just pull them out of my ass. The ability to picture a scene in my head helps, once I stop laughing uncontrollably for no reason.
