Review:
Set in a new world home for humans who have traveled in the ship BIO118 for many generations, The Choice leads you through tragedy and triumph as HEART's children begin to lay the foundations of their lives on land. It has been 8 years since the last generation of HEART's children have been born. A new home planet, Choice, has been found and with the task of building a community also comes the dangers of sabotage from a bitter and unknown enemy.
Linna Dremel's new world displays the boundless depths of friendship and love. Symon, the Ambassador of the community, has a direct link to HEART – the fully aware AI program that guides and protects the humans. HEART loves her children and is giving them the freedom of Choice. The theme of “choice” is prevalent throughout the book, and not just because that is the name of the planet. Each of the main characters must make choices in their new lives. Choose to possibly suffer or relent and go against the truth of your soul? Choose the one you have always loved or the one you think you are growing to love? Choose to let go of your bitterness and choose to forgive.
The story moves swiftly along as the community builds their homes, works to find a power source for HEART, and learn that there is a sinister plot afoot. The characters have to pull on deep wells of strength, courage and love. Friendships are tested and bonds are made in a futuristic tale of rebirth. The culture of the people and their connections were easy to grasp and resonated throughout this book. Thumbs up to Linna for creating a great tale of friendship, loyalty, and choice – both giving and deciding for oneself.
