Tour Stop / Valerie: Daughter of the Dragon by Robert S. Fuller Jr.

Interview with Valerie Ross 'Valeska Rosolov'

What is your name?

The name I was given by my birth-parents was Valeska Rosolov. They were killed, and I was adopted by Vlad Dracul and his wife Tzigane. My vampire parents taught me their ways and I took the spiritual name Valerie. When I re-joined the mortal world, I shortened my Christian name to Ross to prevent overzealous journalists from discovering my true identity.

Is there a nickname you’re known by? Do you prefer it?

No, there’s no nickname to speak of. Most of the world knows me as Valerie, but only those of my kind refer to me as Valeska.

What are your hobbies? Why are they important to you?

A re-entered the mortal world because I missed being around the living. An ex-lover of mine, Edmund Nightingale, worked in a clothing shop. Night after night, when his parents closed the shop, he would sneak me in and show me how to tailor various articles of clothing. When he moved away, my passion for designing clothes stuck. I founded the gothic clothing company Nightingale Fashions to remain part of the mortal world.

How would you spend an unexpected day off?

Being a designer affords me flexible hours, but being a vampire limits my opportunities. My father, Vlad Dracul, procured an island in the Caribbean to serve as my headquarters and my refuge. Inspiration comes to me as I sit among the rocks and watch the waves to crash into the outcroppings. Some nights I wander through the tiny village, and take in the nightlife. My island is home to many of my loyal followers.

What is your most cherished possession?

As a vampire, I rarely become attached to objects, but there is one item that I will always cherish. One night, while sitting on my favorite rock formation, I took out my sketch book and began to work on an outline. Before I knew it, the drawing was done. As I studied it, I found that I had concentrated more on the woman than on the clothing. A few weeks later, I met that woman when she presented her store to host my annual fashion show. That sketch was of my beloved, Samantha. The sketch now hangs prominently in my sleeping chamber.

Are you shy or social? How do you feel about attending parties?

Being in the public eye means I have to be social, but being a vampire means I have to be careful. During media events, I use a double, Elena, who hails from the same village in Romania as I do, and has undergone surgical alterations to resemble me. My Protector, Paul Harding, is also my assistant. He arranges media events and keeps a close eye on who is allowed to attend. When cameras are forbidden, such as after-parties or private interviews, then I’m able to attend in person.

What is your biggest character defect?

You would think being immortal for over a century and a half, I would learn to not follow my heart as much as I do. Paul swears that it will be the death of him, but when I see someone I want, I ignore the dangers. Samantha is from a small Midwestern city, and Paul tried to dissuade me from choosing Lexington because it would be harder for him and a small coven to protect me. My heart has nearly gotten the better of me a few times.

How hard is it to for you to admit when you’re wrong?

Paul claims I never admit that I’m wrong. In spite of my supernatural gifts and abilities, I admit I’m not perfect. I have been wrong and it has nearly cost me my life. During a fashion show in Italy, I dropped my guard and allowed an assassin to get too close. I misread the entire situation, but I refused to admit I was wrong.

What belief / person / institution would you die to defend?

When my village was attacked Vlad Dracul found me, alone and freezing in the woods, and took me in. He and Tzigane trusted me enough to share their secret and welcomed me into their world. I will never betray their trust. I would give my life to protect the God of Light’s Vampire King.

What would you never do, no matter the price?

I would never turn my back on my beloved Samantha. She is the first mortal, in a very long time, to accept me for who and what I am. One day she will ask me to bestow the kiss of undeath onto her, and on that day we will be joined for eternity.

Excerpt

“Does the sight of my body excite you?” she asks huskily.

She runs the palms of her hands down her breasts causing him to lick his lips and move closer to her. She reaches out and slowly begins to delicately caress his hips through his shorts. Her eyes delve into his and she sees the unmistakable spark of desire blazing within the dark brown depths.

She coyly smiles at him as her fingers unfasten the button of his shorts and pushes them down his bronze legs, allowing her fingernails to brush deftly over his heated flesh, causing him to pant slightly. Valerie closes her eyes for a moment drawing in a deep breath, smelling his lust and knowing that he is willingly giving himself to her.

Without hesitation, she runs her tongue along her lips and kisses him tentatively at first and then more desperate. She forces him away and allows her eyes to settle upon his. He shivers as her hands, cold and smooth, caress his legs, moving up along his inner thighs making his erection pulse with need. He pulls off his t-shirt, exposing his firm muscular chest as her hand glides down the tight ripples of his belly.

She slides her fingers up his taut thighs, teasing him with a sensual smile, as she takes his swollen manhood into her icy grip, feeling the heat of him, feeling the throb of his heart beat along the smooth flesh. Lust is what she feels, wild and erotic, untamed and ready to take the bounty before her.

Biting her lower lip, she pushes him backwards onto the stone. He sits on the edge as she steps into the candlelight, coming into full view. She unbuttons the gown and lets it glide down her sleek body, finally exposing her nakedness to him. She runs her hands over her own body, drawing his eyes over every curve.

Her lean muscular frame shimmers as her pale skin is nearly translucent in the soft candlelight. She watches him, as his eyes dart from her full lips, to her breasts, down to her sex. She loves the feeling of his eyes burning with desire watching her, barely able to control his yearning to take her. She relishes the desires of mortals and her sexual power over them.

She eases back onto the stone, allowing her momentum to pull him on top of her. She can feel him tremble above her as she plants soft kisses on his neck and shoulders. Without much guidance or warning he slips inside of her. A moan escapes his lips as he presses his warm body against her, as he slowly begins to thrust his hips in time with the beating of his heart.

“Do you freely accept your destiny?” she coos in a sleepy whisper.

Her arms wrap around his neck, holding him close as his full weight presses down on her, and she can feel his heart pound against her chest. He tenses and she can sense that he is close to spilling his seed into her. She breathes passionately into his ear, drawing him even closer to sweet release. With each stroke her hips jut up to meet his.

“Yes,” he finally answers with his thoughts, unable to vocalize the word.
