Tour Stop / Exposure by Christina Mobley

Christina Mobley
A few of my favorite things…

1 Favorite Drink:
Hands down, Dr. Pepper!! I live on Dr. Pepper. It’s even mentioned in my first book. ;) It’s my writing fuel. If someone invented Dr. Pepper flavored coffee, I would buy stock in it, and I would be permanently caffeinated. Maybe I will invent it…!?

2. Favorite place:
When I was a kid, I would paddle one of our canoes up the St. Mary’s river, throw a blanket on the bottom, and drift back staring up at the blue sky between the tree tops. It was the perfect way to get a tan, get away from everything, and my private place to think. That’s probably where the idea for Elementris was born.

3.Favorite Food:
A big juicy Hamburger. That perfect one with all the toppings. I know I should have a more grownup favorite, or a less fattening favorite, but I don’t.

4. Favorite time:
Late afternoon. When the day just starts to cool off and everything is almost done.

5. Favorite Book:
White Oleander by Janet Fitch. I don’t know exactly what it is about that book. I think it’s the main character, Astrid. Her character came to life for me. I loved the way she changed in the story. I loved the way the author showed Astrid’s innocence and vulnerability in the beginning and then carved it away as the story went on. Astrid’s character experienced a harsh life without her mother and dealt with the challenges of a failing foster system. Each terrible change and twist made her grow. The author gives you a front row seat to Astrid’s mind and heart. You see her innocence fall away with each curve in the story. Her character builds right before your eyes as she realizes the fault in her mother’s logic and matures into a young woman. It’s a twisted yet beautiful story.

7. Favorite Color:
Green. I guess that’s not a big surprise.

8 Favorite Movie:
Dirty dancing

9:Favorite song:
Flyleaf> All Around Me. It’s my number one writing song. I can turn it on and the story just comes.

10. Favorite Quote:
Sometimes you have to learn how to dance in the rain.” I live my life by that quote. There was a time I would never have dreamt of writing a book. The truth is, not so many years ago, I was a teen mother in a bad relationship, who had just dropped out of eighth grade. At sixteen I became a mother to an Autistic child, who was born with clubbed feet and several developmental delays. He didn’t walk until he was four. At ten he was diagnosed with Autism. He has aggressive self-injury behaviors and severe speech and developmental delays. He also has a contagious laugh and an amazing spirit. With Tyler, every day is a new challenge and a new life lesson. The only reason I sat down to write my first book was because of him and because I have the most supportive husband in the world. After finding no long lasting childcare for Tyler and switching from one job to the next, my husband suggested I become a stay-at-home mother to better care for Tyler. It was shortly after that when I found my love for writing. My husband and I now have four children all together. Our house is loud, busy, and fun. I wouldn’t want it any other way. Besides, dancing in the rain is a blast.

Book Back from Exposure

Hidden behind a continuous storm, in the heart of the Bermuda Triangle, there is a secret and powerful place. Element Island’s mysteries are as great as its beauty. Ava Vangeretta’s life changed forever after she arrived on the island; she became the True Elementris.

Now Ava is faced with a new challenge. The powerful gifts protected by those born of the element could be revealed. Temptation gives new life to an old curse, danger draws near, and the lines between friend and enemy are blurred as secrets are revealed. Ava will do whatever it takes to protect those she loves, but can she prevent exposure?

Excerpt

Ava glanced at the world map on her wall; the one matching the giant one in her office. There was work to be done. She felt the power of the elements begin to surge through her as she looked at the maps. There had been an awful drought in Georgia for weeks now and it looked as if her help was needed. She closed her eyes and instantly her throat went dry and she felt the heat rising from the parched earth. With her eyes still closed she could see the blinding sun and cloudless sky. She let the magic of the element work its way through her body as she thought of rain. She smiled as the blue sky darkened and she sent a rumble of thunder as a warning to those who might not be paying attention. She could feel the relief of the earth as it began to absorb the soothing rain. She was careful to make sure the rain would provide a slow soaking—the earth was so dry that anything heavier would cause flooding. She opened her eyes, feeling a little dizzy as her energy level returned to normal, and sighed. If only she could really be there. Element Island was amazing, but she longed to be able to visit all the places her mind took her.

There are people born in this world with a...
powerful connection to the earth itself...

They have an unbreakable and extraordinary bond. Every seven years, five people are born on the same day, at the exact same time. The elements bind them; earth, fire, wind, water, and spirit. They call them, Elementris.

Ava Vangeretta is seventeen years old and different. Unlike most born of the element, she was born alone. She has the power of all five elements. Ava is the first True Elementris to be born in many years. As her eighteenth birthday approaches she is faced with a choice. Give up this rare gift and live the normal life she has always craved or accept it and challenge the current True Elementris in a battle to the death!

Ava's past haunts her as she struggles to decide. In her present, the seasons are colliding together, storms are destroying lives, and love is a dangerous curse. The current True Elementris is behind it all and she will do whatever necessary to keep Ava from making it to her eighteenth birthday. Ava's decision threatens the lives of the two people she cares about most. Can you choose between love and friendship?

Elementris Review

It's not every day that a book has you so wrapped up in the story that reading it deprives you of much needed sleep.  There were so many times when I knew I needed to put it down and go to sleep last night, knowing I had to get up early.  I kept telling myself after this chapter or section, and kept on till I was about 85% done and couldn't keep my eyes open any longer.  Today was no different, on a total of three hours of sleep, I got up, took care of business and put off everything else to finish this amazing book!

The characters were great!  I guessed a few parts and was completely floored by others.  I loved Ava from the beginning with the author grabbing my attention and holding it throughout the entire story.  There were a few parts where I wanted to scream, others where I teared up, and times when I questioned my current theory or thought.  Ava's relationship with her best friend, Brea was an amazing bond.  The emotions the two showed throughout the story is one of an amazing character bond that not many authors can pull off.  Then there is Alec, oh with my imagination is running wild, he's gotta be the sweetest, most caring male character I've read about in a while.  His story, his history and his family, just amazing and told with just enough information to want to know more.  I couldn't help but peg a few answers to questions right on the nose before the author allowed me to find out for sure.  It's a habit I must confess, the mystery and unanswered questions in a story gets me every time!

The connection to Ava was amazing, feeling her emotions, when she was happy and sad, frustrated or scared, the connection I felt to her was awesome.  As main characters go with a lot of stories, the reader doesn't always feel that pull, or connection or whatever it may be to the characters of the story.  The author has to make that connection with his or her writing.  Christina did that for me with Ava and I was grateful that she did.  I want to know what's next and continue with this book series just because I want to continue Ava's journey with her into the next book.
