Review / Broken by Dean Murray

Blurb

Adri Paige is too busy dealing with the emotional fallout from losing half of her family to deal with boys. At least she thought so until the two most intriguing guys in her new school take an interest in her.

Both boys are gorgeous and blessed with obscene amounts of money. They should have the emotional depth of note cards, but instead display undercurrents she doesn't fully understand. Rumors the pair destroys peoples' livelihoods seem ludicrous until she gets caught in the crossfire and her family almost loses their home. She's increasingly unsure either boy is really human, and their rivalry is rapidly turning deadly.

Broken is a 125,000 word YA Paranormal Romance and is a complete novel in its own right, but also represents one-half of a double novel when paired with Torn. Regardless of which book you start with, the two are designed such that you can continue on to the other in order to get answers to questions not answered in the book you started with. The series continues with Splintered.

  Review

Dean Murray’s Broken is a MUST read!! After the first few chapters with the author’s flowing events it’s unavoidable not to finish this book and not want more. Who would think such feud would captivate such events that have you hungry for more!

Adriana Paige, or Adri is an emotionally troubled teen with a devastating past of losing her father and sister in a car accident. It affects her well being as she has panic attacks that cause her to pass out any given time because of overwhelmed feelings. After such events her Mother decides to more to a small town to make something of her photography career, which does not pan out. However this small town has a big secret. In danger of losing their house, a mysterious protector helps them, making you wonder who their protector could be. Who could be so interested in them to help the new trespassers in town? Who could it be between the two hottest, richest, and most popular guys in high school, Alec Or Brandon? Who are the town’s protectors with a feud between them?

I really like the way the transitions happen flowingly throughout this book. The development of characters throughout the book gives a great deal of insight as to why the character behaves the way he or she does.

I personally don’t know what had my attention the most, the mysterious protector or the hotshot shape shifters, but with this twisted adventure nothing’s for certain. Broken will keep you on your tows with unexplainable events that will have you wanting more. You can’t go wrong with Broken. It’s exceptionally unique to the world of shape shifters.

About the Author
Dean started reading seriously in the second grade due to a competition and has spent most of the subsequent three decades lost in other people's worlds. After reading several local libraries more or less dry of sci-fi and fantasy, he started spending more time wandering around worlds of his own creation to avoid the boredom of the 'real' world.

Things worsened, or improved depending on your point of view, when he first started experimenting with writing while finishing up his accounting degree. These days Dean has a wonderful wife and two lovely daughters to keep him rather more grounded, but the idea of bringing others along with him as he meets interesting new people in universes nobody else has ever seen tends to drag him back to his computer on a fairly regular basis.

  1. This is a really nice review! It never blows the secret - until the moment that I was thinking, "Get over it, chica, screw them both and then pick one!" When you reveal that Adri begins to suspect the humanity of both boys, my interest level skyrocketed.

The book sounds like I would love it, even though it is out of my genre (also, given that I m dueling with middle age, I hate reading about teenage love, even though it's the hottest kind). What it reinforces is that I would love to read more of your reviews!
