Book II: “The Shades of Fate” did not take too long to write, really. About three months, and then a few months of editing, etc. It was great to get right back into the realm and the characters, and then create a follow-up to the first book with some greater and more daring adventure. Actually, getting to the point of writing the book itself took a few months, as I was trying to think of how I would continue from the first book. I had ended book I thinking that it was over - and so really this book, along with the book II, could read as stand alone books. But I let the idea of book II just simmer in my mind as to how it would play out, and how I could continue with the robot and his adventure in the forgotten realm. And so with “the discovery of a legendary pumpkin patch in the dark of the dead woods,” book II was born! It is a bit darker of a book, and new characters have been introduced.
With the discovery of a "legendary" pumpkin patch in the dark of the dead woods, the witch returns in this second installment to the tale of magic and metal. The Land of Iron and Anvil is once again threatened with the dark magic of the witch, and the little robot, Anvil, along with some new and old friends, must venture into the shadowy lands of the realm to stop her wicked ways...and seal her fate.
Review
This book had me intrigued from the beginning because I wanted to see where the author took the story after reading Book I... I was very well surprised at how well the author captured my interest once again, leading me on a journey with three wonderful characters. I was not surprised when he introduced Will and Anvil once again in this amazing story and well written book. I fell into the story easily, wanting to know what was going to happen next and whether or not the characters I came to adore early on were going to defeat the evil witch in the end.
As the next generation comes of age, the characters in this book journey continues. Tabitha, daughter of Kelsey and Sonny, finds herself with friends Jonathon and Haley on a journey that will change their lives forever. Hearing tales of old as they were growing up causes curiosity and they decide to take on a journey to find where the old wicked witch has been laid to rest. Telling their parents that they are on a short overnight, the head out to find the pumpkin patch the stories told speak of.
Finding themselves in territories of unknown lands and finding things that do not always speak of safety. They come across the pumpkin patch hoping to take one home and live to tell about it. Little do the know that the act they are about to embark on will awaken the wicked laid to rest soul of the witch all the tales speak of. Casting a spell on her friends, bidding them to do her will. Tabitha has the help of a caved spirit to protect her from detection. This allows for her to escape the wicked witch. What she must do to keep her home lands from being destroyed by the wicked witch she has not clue. To warn them of what is to come she feels is the only way to stop the witches destruction of her home lands.
I was surprised at the twists and turns of the story as Tabitha goes through ups and downs to return to her homelands and warn her people. There were moments of such wonder that I couldn't help but to continue turning the pages to find out what would happen next. I am now going into book 3 with a sense of wonder once again of how the author will continue this amazing trilogy so far.
