Heart's On Fire Giveaway Hop

Happy Valentine's Day Everyone!
Welcome Trish Marie Dawson!
Thank you Julia for inviting me to your blog today! It's the month of love so why not talk about romance? I'm a writer, as you already know, so why not talk about writing romance? I'm a writer that loves music, so why not take it a step further and talk about the playlist I used to write my short romance story, 'Hawke & the Beast' in the Moon Rose Publishing Anthology 'Once Upon A Twisted Time'?

See how I did that, snuck that book in there? LOL I have a teeny bit of romance in most of my work, but I'd consider my Anthology short as my one true romance story and yes, I do write while listening to music and what I fill my playlists with might just surprise you.

Trish Marie Dawson
Don't know what 'Hawke & the Beast' is about? Here's a short blurb:
Some curses last forever, and some can be broken with the whisper of three little words.

Isabella Rose Woodward fell in love with a witch's son over a century ago. Her punishment for breaking the young man's heart was a beastly one. Every month she turns into a different creature, aging on the full moon when her curse allows for a brief return to her human form. Her only salvation is to find a man that will love her as she is…be it adorned in feathers, furs or scales.

Has she found this love with the handsome Jasper Hawke? Or will a mysteriously determined Hunter find her first, and snuff out the life she so desperately seeks? A life of normalcy, where she loves and is loved in return… just as she is.

I wrote this Anthology piece with three other very talented writers: Miranda Stork, Lindsay Avalon and Tara S. Wood. The Anthology takes traditional fairytales and flips them over, turns them inside out and gives them a darker and sexier twist. Yes, I said sexier. It only took weeks to write my piece of the Anthology, but it took mere hours to put together the writing playlist that allowed my mind to wander off to wild and romantic places. Here are the songs in no particular order (and please don't laugh - not all are romance ballads):

So, yeah - this is quite an eclectic playlist to write a romance with but it worked! There are some songs on here that I would hit repeat on over and over again and others that I would skip if I wasn't in the mood to hear them. Usually though, what happens is that I get so into writing with the right music that I tend to not hear most of the songs. They become my wall, my buffer to the world around me. I have cats. If you have cats than you know they are obsessed with getting in your way when you are writing or reading. I have kids. If you have kids than I don't need to explain further - you know what life is like.

Music has a way of freeing the soul. For a writer, our souls are already loose and untethered to reality, but pair our writing with a good song and we can create anything.

Thanks for having me here with you today Julia! I wish you all a romantic February - whether you listen to love songs with your love, or listen to love songs to remember your lost loves - the music will never die…it will never leave you. And words last forever. Lose yourself in a good romance, and don't come up for air until the story plays in your head like a song.

'Hawke & The Beast'

PROLOGUE
The full moon shined brightly again. It is the only evening of the month that she is free of feathers, furs or scales. Free to be her true self. Wrapped only in a sheet, bound just below her small breasts so that the hem of the cotton fabric dragged slowly through the dirt, she walked softly and quietly down the narrow road, watching the moon as it made a slow arc across the star-filled night. The woody air was fresh, filling her nasal passages with the pure essence of the national forest that surrounded her. Windy whispers shared with her the soft secrets of the last century passed; of the time she missed while lost in animal form. She was a day older tonight, and though over a century had crept by, her body had only aged just over eleven years in the last one hundred and thirty.

She knew this road well, for she had traveled it many times over the past several months. Once as a rabbit…then a rattlesnake, and most recently she was a kangaroo rat. Her curse, exceedingly cruel and awful, also bestowed a certain sense of humor; alternating her animal transitions between hunter and prey, so that she never had a peaceful existence. Never. In the morning she would awaken as another creature of the California mountains, but tonight…tonight she was just…herself.

She - the girl who fell in love with a witch's son many, many moons ago. Forever paying the price until the wicked hand of fate takes pity on her, and allows another to love her as she is…even if that means she is forever adorned in feathers, furs and scales…

    1. Ohhhh...my dreams! They are crazy and not realistic - I love them. LOL I keep a notebook by the bed and my cell phone so I can jot down dreams or email myself in the middle of the night so I don't forget the ideas. ;)

  7. Thanks Trisha! My question is if you are married, does your husband have any influence over how the male characters in your story behave? If you are not married, is there a male in your life who you model those characters after?

Thanks for the giveaway! I've never experienced my heart being on fire by a person but I have read good books that have done it! A good romantic novel is "Outlander" by Diane Gabaldon. Jamie is heroic and handsome and Claire is intelligent and beautiful. Their romance is EPIC and is composed of a true emotional connection between characters!
    Happy V-Day!!

    1. Good question! In my first book, I Hope You Find Me, the main character loses her family and ends up burning them in her backyard. My hubby did not like that I killed the hubby off right away, so I swore to him that none of my male characters would be anything like him. LOL :)

sound intriguing. I love dark adult takes on fairy tales.
It takes them back to their original beginnings when the
