I think that every author has a spark, a spark of ingenuity, or creativity, or maybe even insanity. Some are born with it. For some, it comes much later in life. For fewer still, it comes from somewhere unexpected. That’s how my own spark came to me at the tender age of thirty-four.

One of my absolute favorite things to do is read. The moment I could read the Poky Little Puppy by myself, my love for books was cemented. I read everything and occasionally I would feel so passionate about what I was reading that I would have to write the author and confess my love for their work. My spark came from one of those passionate moments.

When I began reading PC Cast’s House of Night Series, I loved it so much that I had a fan girl moment and sent her an e-mail praising the series. To my surprise, she wrote me back later that day. In the email, she thanked me and then mentioned that I have an eloquent way of writing. I almost had a heart attack on the spot! After the shock wore off, I started thinking. Was she right? Do I have what it takes to be a writer like her? Needless to say, I went for it. I pulled up a blank word document and started that day.

Two years and two novels later, here I sit typing up a guest post and thinking that I’ll never be able to repay PC Cast for what she unknowingly did for me. I think that it’s only right that this next novel is dedicated to the woman who helped me turn a spark I didn’t know I had into a flame.

I was not an avid reader growing up, my mother had to pull teeth to get me to read anything. I believe my first set of books that I devoured in no time was R.L. Stine Fear Street Set when I was in my teens already. Yes now I cannot put a book down, well other than to blog here, hehe. Thank you again for stopping by and cannot wait to have you back!

Author Biography
JD Nelson grew up in humid, rain-soaked Alabama, though she does not like the rain or the heat. If she could have chosen where she was raised, it would have been in the San Francisco Bay Area, which is where she moved to, as soon as the opportunity arose. She has since left the Bay Area for the slower pace of Central California and enjoys reading, writing, and spending time with her husband in the minuscule amount of free time that she has.
